The Goulter family has been farming since 1842, with the love of art showing in each generation. Owners and brothers, Donald and Robert Goulter started Merivale Fine Arts in 2001. Prior to establishing their new business, Donald took time off farming to travel overseas, buying art and marketing it both in New Zealand as well as in Australia and Singapore.  After spending three years in Europe, Donald returned to New Zealand where he completed further training as a framer. He was in the art business for seven years prior to opening Merivale Fine Arts. Both brothers also continue as hobbyist painters, Robert favouring watercolours and Donald, oils and enjoy sharing a passion for identifying suitable new art and artists for the gallery.

After the first year, the business moved to a larger premises, while staying within Merivale, to accommodate the increasing demand for representation by quality artists, and the growing art collection. However, the gallery has still maintained its intimate, 'European' feeling.

Below we will be placing some images of amatuer artworks by members of the Goulter family through different generations. Our personal collections represent a wide range of traditional artists that have come to the fore in New Zealand art.
